Hoea te waka o te matauranga kia pumau tonu te reo Māori me ōna Tikanga mō ake tonu atu
Paddle forth the canoe of knowledge so that the indigenous language and customs of old continue forever.
Our team actively promotes the revitalisation and maintenance of Te Reo Māori me ona Tikanga in schools throughout Aotearoa.
We are dedicated to working towards the revival and development of Te Reo Māori and to raising the achievement levels of all Māori children in schools. ( NARTAM Mahere Rautaki 1999)

TE TOHU

The mountain and the poutama pattern represent the aims and aspirations for Maori education and for all children.
The combined forms of the hills and mountain acknowledge the
importance of the roles of male and female in our work.
The following koru represents the unity within NARTAM across the land.
The pathway to the mountain with its takitoru pattern indicates the importance of communication.
The spiral relates to change.

Ko Wai Matou? Who Are We?

Te Rōpū Takawaenga Māori o Aotearoa is the national body of Resource Teachers and Advisers of Māori known as NARTAM. This service has been operating since 1975. It has helped the education sector develop what is recognised world wide as progressive. Māori education programmes ranging from education totally in Te Reo Māori to Māori language programmes in mainstream schools.
There are 19 Advisers and 55 RTMs. The Advisers are employed by the Colleges of Education and the RTMs are based in Primary Schools... We are all trained teachers with skills in Te Reo me ona Tikanga Māori.
Our group has a broad knowledge base covering areas such as second language learning techniques, computer literacy, resource development, literacy for Māori medium, management techniques and a good working knowledge of the school system from pre- school through to tertiary levels.

NARTAM MAHERE RAUTAKI

There are two RTMs for the Otago region and we also acknowlege the guidance and support of our poua Huata Holmes and Paulette Henderson Crofts who are Advisors Maori with the University College of Education.
